I'm back

After a manic couple of months sewing this quilt I feel like I am back to normal.  You know when you think you have plenty of time to finish a project and then you get the flu and everything goes to hell - well that was me.  As soon as I realised I was not going to make the deadline I relaxed and the rest of the process became easier.

I started planning this project about a year ago.  My nieces 21st was coming up and she suggested I make her a quilt using the Birth of Venus but with her face.  As usual I said no problem, but then of course I had to make it.

For those not familiar with the painting this is it -

As it is a very wide painting not suitable for a quilt I cropped it to this size -

I think this gave the most attractive bits for the quilt.

Then I had to draft the pattern and use my nieces face -

So this is the finished quilt.  I don't think it turned our too badly.  A lot of the detail I did with quilting as to piece would have been too fiddley.  I probably would not have chosen the fabrics I did if I was just sewing a quilt of squares but I think they quite accurately reflect the colours of the painting.

It is called Birth of Nikita - hope she likes it.

Necessity is the mother of Invention

Lovely Elizabeth has been testing some patterns for me and I have loved the results.  The other day she had a dilema - what to do when the fabric you are using for the hair is not going to be enough to finish the block - well just adjust the pattern to fit the fabric that you have.  Let me introduce Prarie Dawn - the latest in my Sesame Street collection.  You will have a choice of 2 version - curly hair or straight hair.  I love them both.  Thanks Elizabeth. As per yesterdays post our special Blues Clues project is well under way.  This is todays effort - it is not much as I am still quite sick with some horrible virus/flu.  Patterns will be added in the next day or so.  If you can help sew any blocks please contact Jennifer over at Fandom in Stitches.

I'm here - where is Blue?

Magenta is Blue's best friend from school. She looks exactly like Blue except she is magenta with magenta-colored spots. Magenta likes photography and making macaroni picture frames.

Although still going strong with my Sesame Street Collection I had to respond to a special request we received at Fandom in Stitches a couple of weeks ago.  A wonderful grandmother wants to create a Blues Clues Quilt for her sick Grandson.  I have designed many along with Jennifer (from Fandom in Stitches and Sewhooked) and Lilja (from liljabs.com).  We still need people to test these patterns - so let me know if you can help.  Magenta can be found on the Blues Clues page of this blog and soon on fandom in stitches.
